Bright Books, Inc.—a wholesale bookseller specializing in the education sector—has just completed its second year of operations, and the company's finance director, Joan Spark, must construct a summary of all transactions that occurred during the year, as well as an income statement and balance sheet. 

This fictionalized case places students in Spark's shoes, introducing them to the basics of recording transactions using journal entries and T-accounts and the basics of preparing financial statements. It can be taught as a stand-alone case, or it can be paired with "Bright Books, Inc." (UVA-C-2498), which relates to the company's first year of operations.
