7: "From One Team to Many" from X-Teams, Revised and Updated: How to Build Teams That Lead, Innovate, and Succeed
- チャプター
In this chapter, the authors examine real organizations that have successfully implemented the principles of x-teams. They illustrate how an interconnected system of x-teams can create an organizational infrastructure of distributed leadership that champions innovation and utilizes the constantly changing environment to its advantage. The authors address common dilemmas faced by organizations, such as employee burnout, a lack of coordinated vision, and unbalanced power structures, and demonstrate how shifting to an x-team model can resolve these issues. Acknowledging the difficulty of generating the organizational momentum needed to change existing team structures, the authors provide a five-step "roadmap" for managers to overcome resistance and implement the x-team framework: 1. Staff for success: Build teams that are diverse in perspective and experience while still being able to connect to each other. A team should also be willing to incorporate temporary external members if that benefits them. 2. Counter resistance early: Address resistance stemming from factors such as a lack of information, inadequate training, or fear of change. Managers should provide sufficient resources and be prepared to answer questions and address concerns. 3. Start small: Begin with manageable steps to help teams acclimate to the shift and build confidence in their ability to adopt the tasks associated with x-teams. 4. Continually check in: Managers should regularly engage with their teams to offer support, provide constructive feedback, and acknowledge achievements. 5. Define a clear endgame: Establish a clear goal for the team to work toward. This will allow a built-in time for the team to reflect on and improve their processes while receiving recognition for their accomplishments. By following this roadmap, managers can facilitate a smoother transition to the x-team structure and address the challenges inherent in organizational change.
