TSMC 2018: Who Is the Next Leader
- ケース
Morris Chang, the visionary founder, chairman, and CEO of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), headquartered in Hsinchu, Taiwan, found himself at a pivotal juncture. At 78, Chang returned to TSMC to rectify the lackluster performance under his successor, Cai Lixing. Aware of the risks his health presented to the 10 company’s future, Chang recognized that no single candidate was ready to assume the CEO role. Thus, a comprehensive ten-year succession plan was implemented, culminating in the appointment of Mark Liu and Zhejia Wei as TSMC's new leaders. Reflecting on this process, Chang identified both the shortcomings and triumphs of the plan as foundational elements for TSMC's future talent development strategy. With just two weeks before his retirement in June 2018, Chang aimed to deliver a sustainable employee development framework as his final contribution to the company.
