Harvard Business School Publishing and the Case Center Japan are pleased to announce a joint online seminar using HBS cases and all materials will be presented in English.
Purpose of the seminar
Last year ,Harvard Business School Publishing (HBP) celebrated the 100th anniversary of its first business case, "General Shoe Company.” Today, 15 million cases are sold each year from case collections in many places, including top business schools such as HBS, Ivey, Darden, and NUCB.
The case method is a powerful learning tool. It can build a wide variety of skills, including thinking, insight, speaking, negotiating, listening, storytelling, and selling. These skills are necessary for 21st century managers. But the case method has pedagogical mysteries and intimidations.
We want to remove mystery and intimidation. During this 3-hour workshop our panel of three professors will demonstrate a short case in Zoom. Participants will discover how the case method is both an art and a science. That is, we use "artistic" human techniques of listening, questioning, and nudging, as well as "scientific" systematic tools to facilitate class interaction.
Prospective case teachers may want to begin their adventure into the case method. What skills do I need to acquire? How should you prepare? How do I start, maintain, and finish a case? How should I engage with students? What art and science skills should I develop next?
This workshop is intended for all those who have such questions, those who are new to case teaching and doctoral students just starting to teach.
