Race, Work, and Leadership is a rare and important compilation of essays edited by Laura Morgan Roberts, Anthony J. Mayo, and David A. Thomas that examines how race matters in people's experience of work and leadership. The fourth section-comprising chapters 16 through 21-takes a critical theory lens that makes visible the experiences of Black leadership and pushes existing theories so that they are more applicable to a diverse range of experiences, including those of African Americans. Chapter 21 reconceptualizes affinity fraud as a function of "predatory bias" that targets members of identifiable social identity groups-for example, a specific race, ethnicity, or social class-as victims of deliberate deception to secure unfair or unlawful financial gain. The authors discuss key aspects of inclusive leadership that could address predatory bias and the negative impact of affinity fraud.
