Race, Work, and Leadership is a rare and important compilation of essays edited by Laura Morgan Roberts, Anthony J. Mayo, and David A. Thomas that examines how race matters in people's experience of work and leadership. The third section-comprising chapters 8 through 15-discusses phenomenological studies that qualitatively research the lived experience of a subject, trusting them to be the speaker and expert on their own life. Chapter 11 addresses the issue of how Black instructional coaches in K-12 schools endure implicit bias and suffer as a result. The authors address the lack of research on how educators respond to Black instructional coaches and how Blackness affects an instructional coach's effectiveness.
